Hope in San Vicente: A Day of Dignity and Love for Forgotten Elders

On December 18, 2024, Brave Together embarked on a heart-led mission to San Vicente de Ferrer, Colombia, visiting the Centro de Bienestar del Anciano San Juan de Dios, a home for elders who have been left without family support or regular visitors. Many of the residents at this center are overlooked and live in solitude — but on this day, they were the focus of care, laughter, and human connection.

From the moment we stepped inside the center, it was clear this visit would leave a lasting impact — not just on the elders, but on our team as well.

Brave Together hosted a full-day experience for the residents, filled with warmth, dignity, and joy. Volunteers personally served nutritious hot meals, ensuring every person was seen, celebrated, and fed with love. We also delivered Hope Kits— thoughtfully curated hygiene care packages that included essentials such as shampoo, soap, lotion, toothpaste, and other personal care items — to restore a sense of comfort and dignity.

What made the day so special wasn’t just the meals or the kits, but the moments in between:

• Laughing over shared stories

• Gently holding the hand of someone who hadn’t felt a visitor’s touch in years

• Pushing a wheelchair through holiday-decorated halls with music playing and hearts light

Our volunteers offered more than just supplies — they offered companionship, reminding these elders they are not forgotten. The experience deeply moved everyone involved, sparking conversations about the importance of elder care, abandonment, and the power of showing up for one another — especially during the holiday season.

What began as a single act of giving grew into a community effort, inspiring local supporters and even young volunteers who witnessed firsthand the beauty of service.

This mission perfectly captured the heart of Brave Together: showing up with intention, compassion, and action — wherever we are needed most.

We are proud of the love that was shared that day. And we are even more inspired to keep going — because every elder deserves to be seen, heard, and embraced with dignity.
